As an Independent FULL TIME Assessor & Internal Quality Assurer, I am able to offer assessment to the Industrial, Commercial and Domestic sector of the Door, Shutter, Gate and Barrier industry, as well as the Loading Bay industry.

I have over 39 years’ experience in this industry, 25 of which was spent building my own Door Company based in the Huddersfield area, where part of my role was to assess the skills and competence of my own Site Technicians.

After selling the Company in 2012, I have now taken on the challenge of Training & Assessment to the required NVQ level 2 needed to gain the CSCS Skilled Worker card.

I am currently registered to the Entrance Systems Alliance, a specialist Assessment Centre created by the Door & Hardware Federation and the Automatic Door Suppliers Association, and I carry out NVQ assessment nationwide for all sectors within the Industrial Door, Garage Door, Gate, Barrier and Loading Bay industries, working closely with the various trade associations.

Lead IQA (Internal Quality Assurance) is also part of my role within the ESA, ensuring all Assessors in the centre meet with the strict procedures and policies and deliver the very highest standard of assessmemnt.

Please feel free to contact me at any time to discuss your NVQ requirements.

Why do I need an NVQ?

If you require a CSCS card or are simply trying to re-new your existing card, you will discover that CSCS will insist on you have an appropriate qualification. In the Door, Gate, Barrier and Loading Bay sector, this means the:

L2 NVQ Diploma in Specialist Occupations (Construction) – Door and Shutter Systems or Loading Bay Systems.

The National Occupational Standards (NOS) for this qualification have just been slightly revised to add more clarity on the Gate element. This has been approved by the appropriate bodies and is awaiting publication.

The Construction Leadership Council (the body that works between Government and Industry) has updated its recommendation, adopted across the industry, which provides a consistent means of recognising that an individual has achieved the agreed standard of qualification and skill in the occupation they are working in.

The CLC states:

The industry, including trade associations, contractors, clients and government should specify

and promote card schemes carrying the CSCS logo with no equivalents accepted.

Cards will be required by those working predominantly on construction sites undertaking a recognised construction occupation. Cards will not be issued in respect of non-construction related occupations.

Card schemes carrying the CSCS logo will meet the following requirements:

  • The appropriate qualification(s) for each occupation will be agreed between the sector

  • representative organisation and its recognised standard setting body.

  • The minimum standard for skilled occupations is a NVQ Level 2 qualification relevant to the occupation plus a separate health and safety element.

  • A completed apprenticeship will be accepted as meeting the minimum standard provided the apprenticeship and associated end point assessment have been agreed as equivalent to the national occupational standard by the sector representative organisation and its recognised standard setting body.

  • Where an NVQ level 2 qualification is not available the sector representative organisation and the relevant standard setting body will specify the recognised equivalent qualification for the occupation.

  • A transition process to bring all existing cardholders up to the minimum standard by 2020 will be agreed and implemented.

  • The scheme logos and the logo of the relevant standard setting body may feature on their cards or within any smart technology solution used.

  • A transition process to introduce smart technology by 2020 will be agreed and implemented for all cards.
